The scope of work of the Medical and Scientific Department (MSD) is to develop, with each of Institut Mérieux’s companies, a true medical, scientific, and technological vision to help them to define their medium- and long-term strategy as well as assess various scientific and technological opportunities.

Its scope is also to stimulate and strengthen innovation by bringing new concepts to Institut Mérieux through the creation of a network of high-level investigators and the establishment of partnerships with universities and research centers.

The MSD takes a proactive, up-close approach to international academic research by identifying concepts and technologies capable of being transferred from academic and private research laboratories to Institut Mérieux’s R&D activities. This strategy is based in particular on Mérieux Research Grants and calls for projects on high-potential topics.

The MSD develops and coordinates cross-discipline research programs on public health issues for which complementary approaches and skill synergies can be created among Institut Mérieux’s companies.

The MSD operates joint research laboratories which bring together teams from Institut Mérieux’s companies with teams from public research institutes.
